SPRINGFIELD, MO. — The 25th Annual Master Gardeners of Greene County Plant Sale takes place Saturday, April 30, 8 a.m., at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park, 2400 S. Scenic Ave.
The annual event moves to a new location within the park this year: the Japanese Garden Pavilion, just outside Mizumoto Japanese Stroll Garden. The sale takes place rain or shine, and continues until supplies are sold out. Arrive early for best selection.
Members of the Master Gardeners of Greene County raise and transplant annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs, houseplants, blubs, grasses, shrubs, trees and more for this sale. Items for sale are sourced from private gardens and Master Gardener-maintained public areas at Springfield Botanical Gardens at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park, and the Waterwise Garden within Phelps Grove Park. Other garden societies associated with Springfield Botanical Gardens also offer items for sale.
Master Gardeners and other volunteers are on site to assist with purchases and answer questions.
Kelly McGowan, Field Specialist in Horticulture for the University of Missouri Extension, says this is a great opportunity to chat with Master Gardeners and about plants offered at the sale.
“In addition to a great selection of plants that do well in the Ozarks, Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions and give suggestions to attendees,” said McGowan.
Master Gardeners of Greene County accept cash, checks and cards, but other garden societies may only accept cash.
This annual event serves as a fundraiser for Master Gardeners of Greene County, allowing the group to maintain public demonstration gardens and provide quality garden-related programs as volunteers of University of Missouri Extension. Last year, Master Gardeners of Greene County members gave more than 9,874 hours of volunteer service, promoting gardening and education in our community.
Volunteers are needed for this event. For additional information, visit www.mggreene.org/plantsale or call the Master Gardeners of Greene County Hotline at 417-874-2963.
