SPRINGFIELD, MO. — The Springfield-Greene County Park Board’s Spokes BMX Raceway hosts hundreds of BMX racers Oct 1-3 at the USA BMX Gold Cup South Central Final Championship Series.
About 800 BMX racers from 10 states are registered for the event. Competitors include boys and girls, ages 4 and up, novices through pro. Combined with families, vendors and staff, this event brings about 2,000 visitors to Springfield.
USA BMX Gold Cup activities begin Friday, Oct. 1, with practices at 1 p.m., and races beginning at 5. The action continues Saturday, Oct. 2, with practices 7:30-11:15 a.m. and races beginning at 11:30. The final races are Sunday, Oct. 3, starting at 8 a.m., followed by awards.
The event is open to the public. Admission is free, but parking is $10/day for vehicles or $25 for the weekend. RV parking is $15/day, but no camping is allowed onsite.
This is the second USA BMX Gold Cup Final hosted in Springfield, following the first in 2015. Springfield also hosted the 2017 USA BMX Mid-America Nationals. The location was selected due to collaborative efforts of the Springfield Sports Commission, Spokes BMX and the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.
“We are most grateful for the work conducted at the track by the Spokes BMX volunteer team, and the collaborative time and efforts of the Park Board team to help bring this event to Springfield,” said Lance Kettering, executive director of the Springfield Sports Commission. “We are thrilled to work with the entire USA BMX team to promote the sport and to bring an opportunity like this to our region.”
Spokes BMX Raceway is at 2550 W. Bennett St., Springfield, Mo., 65807, just northeast of Ewing Park and Sports Complex.
