Rotary Peace Pole and Garden

Springfield’s Rotary clubs collaborated to place Peace Poles in five parks, each bearing the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in eight languages.

Rotary Club of Springfield – Downtown, in partnership with Rotary District 6080, sponsored this pole and surrounding garden, serving as a gathering space and an accessible gateway to the Peace Through People Pavilion.

Languages on this Peace Pole include English, Japanes, Frech, Spanish, Italian, Chin, Pashto and Osage, as well as a Braille plaque. These languages represent Native Americans in the Ozarks as well as immigrants to Missouri, and Springfield's Sister Cities in Japan and Mexico.

Plantings include topiary boxwood hedge, a symbol of longevity and eternal life; sage, a symbol of wisdom and other plants selected for cheerful, long-lasting flowers and easy maintenance.

The Rotary Peace Pole and Garden was dedicated June 20, 2023.
