Upcoming construction at Cruse Dog Park will cause partial park closures the week of May 15-19, weather permitting.
The Springfield-Greene County Park Board is installing two new 10’x10’ shade structures: one in the small dog side of the park, another in the large dog side.
Cruse Dog Park will be closed Monday, May 15, for installation of temporary fencing and beginning the construction process in the park.
Cruse Dog Park reopens May 16-19 with temporary chain link fencing in place, allowing the front portion of each side of the park to be open, with the construction zone fenced off. Play areas will be temporarily smaller during construction.
While Cruse Dog Park remains open May 16-19, please be aware heavy machinery may be in use during business hours, approximately 8 a.m.-5 p.m. If you or your dog are sensitive to loud noises, consider visiting the dog park in the outside of these hours.
Construction is expected to wrap up by Friday, May 19, weather permitting. Construction updates will be posted on the Cruse Dog Park Facebook page.
The shade structure construction project is funded by the Cruse Dog Park fund, with monies raised through special events.
Cruse Dog Park is the first off-leash dog park in Springfield. Officially ‘unleashed’ in 2008, the six-acre park includes separate fenced play areas for large and small dogs. The park is located at 2100 W Catalpa St., but it is accessed from the southwest corner of the intersection of Grand Street and Kansas Expressway, behind Walgreens. Membership or a daily pass is required.
