Park Board holiday activities begin this weekend with Golf Sale, Candy Cane Lane


Springfield, MO — The Springfield-Greene County Park Board has lots of opportunities throughout December for kids and adults to get into the holiday spirit, including:

Fri., Nov. 30-Sat., Dec.1: PGA Golf Sale

Save up to 75 percent off new and used golf products from seven area golf courses, including the Park Board’s Rivercut, Horton Smith and Bill and Payne Stewart. Sale runs Fri., 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sat., from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. For a limited time, get up to additional $150 bonus when you join the Park Board’s Golf Patron Plan. Also get $60 Park Board Golf Gift Cards for just $50, now through Christmas! Sale is located at 228 W. Sunshine St. on the corner of Sunshine and Campbell, near Whole Hog Café.

Fri., Nov. 30 and Sat., Dec. 1: Festival of Lights Holiday Skating Exhibition
Holiday-themed figure skating show. Presented by Mediacom Ice Park, the Jordan Valley Figure Skating Club and the Skating School of Springfield. Friday show is at 7 p.m. and Saturday show is at 2 p.m. Admission is $5 per person.

 Fri., Nov. 30- Sun., Dec. 16: Candy Cane Lane at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park Begins
Drive through the Farm Park and enjoy dazzling themed holiday displays and more than 10,000 lights. Candy Cane Lane runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, 5-8 p.m. Admission is $5/vehicle, hot cocoa available to purchase.

 Fri., Nov. 30-Sat., Dec. 22: Evening Strolls through the Garden

Walk through the Japanese Stroll Garden on Friday and Saturday, 5:30-8:30 p.m., and take in winter’s subtle beauty highlighted with festive lights. Admission is $4/adults, kids 12-under are free with a paid adult.

Sat., Dec. 1: Christmas at the Farmstead at Springfield Botanical Gardens

Join volunteers at the Gray/Campbell Farmstead to celebrate an old-fashioned Christmas from 1-3 p.m. Decorate the tree with hand-made vintage ornaments and enjoy hot cocoa, cookies and carols. Admission is free.

Sat., Dec. 1: Little Elf Party at Doling Family Center 

Parents, bring your kids (ages 5-10 yrs.) in their pajamas to Doling Family Center while you do some Christmas shopping or spend an evening out. Register by Thurs., Nov. 29 at 417-837-5900. Drop off begins at 4 p.m., pick up by 7:30 p.m. Little elves will be treated to dinner, crafts, Christmas cookies, an age-appropriate movie and games! Fee is $7/Member, $10/Non-member.

Sat., Dec. 1, Dec. 15 and Tuesday Dec. 25: Festival of Lights Free Ice Skating

In celebration of Festival of Lights and the holiday season, enjoy free ice skating at Mediacom Ice Park. Admission is free, but there is a $3 skate rental fee. Free sessions are: Sat., Dec. 1, 5:30-6:30 p.m.; Sat., Dec. 15, 5:30-6:30 p.m.; and Tues., Dec. 25, 5-6 p.m. While you’re at the Ice Park, step outside into Jordan Valley Park to see the free Festival of Lights display.

Sat., Dec. 1-Mon., Dec. 31: Holiday Train Garden Display at the Botanical Center

The magic of miniature landscapes and moving train models transforms the Botanical Center into a holiday wonderland for all ages. Presented by the Ozarks Garden Railway Society, the display is open Mon.-Sat., 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sun., 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free, donations are appreciated.

Sat., Dec. 8: Candy Cane Hunt at Dan Kinney Family Center

Children ages 3-9 yrs. hunt for candy canes, sip hot chocolate, decorate sugar cookies and make a holiday craft from 12-2 p.m. Ages 3-5 hunt at 12:30, ages 6-9 hunt at 1:30 p.m. Pre-register by Dec. 7 for $5/person, or register day of for $8/person. 417-891-1500.

Sat., Dec. 15: Handmade Wreath Workshop at the Botanical Center 

Create your own wreath with fresh greenery and dried natural ornaments from the garden. Class runs 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Class size is limited to 12, registration is required. Call 417-891-1515 by Fri., Dec. 14 to register. For ages 12 yrs. and up. A private decorating party is also available for booking anytime through the holidays! Fee is $25/item. 

Fri., Dec. 21-Wed., Jan. 2: SPARC Winter Break Camp at Sequiota Elementary

Don’t sit at home with the Winter Break Blues. Kids ages 5-12 yrs. may join the SPARC crew for fun-filled field trips and activities Dec. 21, 27, 28, 31 and Jan. 2, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Field trips include Zenith Rock Climbing, Incredible Pizza, Skateland and more! Registration required at 417-837-5737, space is limited. Sign up for one day or all five. Fee is $17/per child each day.
