Jefferson City, MO – Robert Uckele, Concessions Administrator with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board, was honored with the Missouri Park and Recreation Association’s Associate Fellow Award at the association's annual conference March 1, in Osage Beach.
In 2002, Uckele joined the Springfield-Greene County Park Board staff as an eager Concessions Supervisor. At that time, he was the only full-time concessions staff member, overseeing 10 ballpark and pool concession stands, with a seasonal staff of 25-30 employees.
His diligence, strong work ethic and positive attitude were immediately noticed. During those early years, Uckele was instrumental in developing systems for inventory, delivery, cleaning, and maintaining health code regulations. He also developed a vision for growing concessions and expanding into catering — moving from hotdogs to white tablecloth luncheons.
In 2004, Uckele was named a Certified Concessions Manager by the National Association of Concessionaires. In 2011 he received his CPRP Certification, and was promoted to Concessions Administrator in 2012.
During his tenure, he’s written an Operations Manual for staff and updated the Employee Training and Policy Manual. His keen understanding of food service and operation was key to renovating three outdoor pool concession stands, adding year-round concessions at Mediacom Ice Park, and expanding into a full-service mobile food operation. He now oversees two fulltime staff positions and more than 80 temporary and seasonal staff.
Uckele works closely with departmental colleagues as well as rental groups to provide an array of catering options. He is a valued member of the Park Board's Recreation Division, and his co-workers are proud to work alongside him and to recognize his outstanding accomplishments over the past 15 years.
